Η συνεργασία των Phase Fatale και Pablo Bozzi ως Soft Crash επικυρώνεται με το πρώτο EP.

Το Soft Crash είναι το όνομα του νέου μουσικού σχήματος του Hayden Payne (Phase Fatale) και του Pablo Bozzi (1/2 Imperial Black Unit, Lapse Of Reason). Συνδυάζοντας αναφορές από William S. Burroughs και J.G. Ballard αντίστοιχα, το project αποσκοπεί να διερευνήσει το φετιχισμό της τεχνολογίας και του σώματος και το πώς η διαχωριστική γραμμή μεταξύ αυτών διαρκώς θολώνει. Όλο και περισσότερο, οι άνθρωποι αναδιαμορφώνονται και ελέγχονται από την μοντέρνα τεχνολογία και καταλήγουν να βιώνουν μια άσχημη κατάσταση. Παρ’ όλ’ αυτά, αυτή η βασισμένη στην τεχνολογία μουσική είναι δυνατόν να επαναφέρει κάποιο συναίσθημα στην προσπάθεια να αναδείξει μια ρομαντική ευαισθησία και σύνδεση.
Και οι δύο έχουν ως έδρα το Βερολίνο και βρίσκονται στην κορυφή των industrial techno και EBM κύκλων τα τελευταία χρόνια, έχοντας μάλιστα μοιραστεί πολλές φορές την σκηνή με τα επιμέρους projects τους. Μάλιστα, ο Bozzi κυκλοφόρησε το solo EP ντεμπούτο του στο label του Phase Fatale (BITE) νωρίτερα μέσα στην χρονιά. Όμως, η κοινή τους αγάπη για την μουσική εκτός αυτής της σφαίρας είναι αυτό που τους ένωσε πίσω από ένα όνομα. Σε μια προσπάθεια να διώξουν τα σκοτεινά και «επιτακτικά» στερεότυπα της σύγχρονης μουσικής, στα οποία χωρίς αμφιβολία είχαν και οι ίδιοι ισχυρή θέση στην διαμόρφωσή τους, κοιτούν πλέον στις κύριες επιρροές τους που αποτελούνται από synthwave, disco και πρώιμη techno για να χαράξουν μια νέα πορεία ως πρωτοπόροι του “italo body music”.
Το Spritzkrieg είναι ένα EP που αποτελείται από 3 κομμάτια και θα κυκλοφορήσει σε ψηφιακή μορφή και σε 12″ βινύλιο από την ΒΙΤΕ στις 27 Νοεμβρίου, «τσιμπώντας» μας κατά κάποιον τρόπο για την επικείμενη ολοκληρωμένη κυκλοφορία μέσα στην επόμενη χρονιά. Κάθε κομμάτι χρησιμεύει ως μια «βουτιά» στις μουσικές υποκατηγορίες που εξερευνούν: από το prototrance και την techno της Φρανκφούρτης, στο italo disco και στο new beat, καταλήγοντας στην electro με ambient πρότυπα από τις αρχές των 90’s. Καταρτισμένοι μουσικοί και οι δύο, με το Soft Crash φέρνουν την μελωδία πίσω στο προσκήνιο δημιουργώντας ευφυείς, μελαγχολικούς ήχους συνδυασμένος με αισθησιακούς, παλλόμενους ρυθμούς. Έτσι, μέσω αυτού, μπορούν να εξωτερικεύσουν τα καλλιτεχνικά τους συναισθήματα με έναν τρόπο ειδυλλιακό, πράγμα που τα λόγια δεν αρκούν για να πετύχουν. Πρόκειται για μια μουσική που «χωράει» επάξια και εξίσου σε techno χώρους και disco βραδιές.

Soft Crash is the new music collaboration formed by Hayden Payne, aka Berghain resident Phase Fatale and Pablo Bozzi of Imperial Black Unit/Lapse Of Reason. Combining references such as William S. Burroughs and J.G. Ballard respectively, the project also functions to explore the fetishization of technology and the body and how the line between those is perpetually blurring. Increasingly, humans are reshaped and controlled by modern technology to an abysmal state; meanwhile, this technologically-made music can reinsert some emotion to try to bring back out a romantic sensibility and connection.
Bozzi and Payne, both based in Berlin, have been at the top of the industrial techno and ebm circuit through the last several years and have shared the stage on numerous occasions in their respective projects. As well, Bozzi released his debut solo EP on Phase Fatale’s label BITE earlier this year. But their mutual love for music outside of that sphere is what brought them together to form this alliance. Attempting to throw off the dark and authoritative stereotypes of the current music scene they helped foster, Payne and Bozzi look to their core influences of synthwave, disco, and early techno to carve a new path as italo body music pioneers.
The Spritzkrieg EP will be released in 12″ and digital format via BITE on November 27th and presents 3 tracks, serving as just a bite of what will follow in their full length album for 2021. Each song serves as a view into the pool of subgeneres that they are exploring: from Frankfurt prototrance and techno to driving italo disco and new beat to drowned out electro on the verge of 90s Warp-alike ambient. Both trained musicians, Soft Crash brings melody back into the fold, creating intelligent, melancholic hooks combined with sensual, pulsating rhythm. It can convey the artists’ emotions in a picturesque way that just words themselves cannot. Music that would fit perfectly in the largest concrete techno halls as well as the sleaziest lab disco nights.
