Η γνώμη μας για το πρώτο solo album της Jokasti!
Η Ιοκάστη είναι το πρώτο μισό, σύμφωνα με το όνομα, των Jokasti & Nek και των οποίων την δουλειά ήδη γνωρίζουμε πολύ καλά. Ύστερα από πολλές κυκλοφορίες έφτασε η στιγμή για το solo ντεμπούτο της στην Prodigal Son, με την οποία έχουν ήδη συνεργαστεί για συμμετοχή σε 2 compilation και για το EP “Uncertain Past“. Το “Silver Lining“, όμως, αποτελεί μια ολοκληρωμένη δημιουργία που αντλεί έμπνευση μέσα από μια συλλογή εμπειριών, ήχων και από νύχτες σε dance floors. Γενικά, από την πρώτη κιόλας επαφή αντιλαμβανόμαστε πως δεν μονοπωλεί το στιλ, αφού διαθέτει και «συμφιλιώνει» αρκετά μουσικά στοιχεία δίνοντας ιδιαίτερη βαρύτητα στα φωνητικά.
Με μια ψιθυριστή εισαγωγή βυθιζόμαστε στο “Skotadi“, το οποίο θα λέγαμε πως θυμίζει τελετουργία με τους ρυθμικούς του χτύπους, τους στίχους και το background ambient. Ανεβάζοντας το tempo, στο δεύτερο κομμάτι μας «προειδοποιεί» πως “This is a subliminal message” και καλά θα κάνουμε να το προσέξουμε! Μπαίνουμε στο κυρίως μέρος του άλμπουμ σε αγαπημένο acid μοτίβο και διακριτικές φωνητικές παραμορφώσεις, που «τσιμπάνε» το ενδιαφέρον. Ένα κομμάτι με καθαρό ήχο, δυναμικό ξεκίνημα και έτοιμο να παιχτεί σε υψηλή ένταση. Ποιο είναι όμως αυτό το μήνυμα; Στο “Time to time” έχουμε στιβαρά kicks, hi-hats και high-pitch «συρσίματα» με τον τίτλο να «πειράζεται», να επαναλαμβάνεται υπνωτικά και να μας οδηγεί στο πρώτο και πολυαναμενόμενο drop. Ένα σοβαρό αν μη τι άλλο techno κομμάτι με ήχους που σε πικάρουν σε όλη την διάρκεια. Ο όγκος του “Terr Atcha“, που ακολουθεί, είναι πραγματικά απολαυστικός και δίνει εξαιρετική ώθηση στην εξέλιξη του κομματιού. Όμως, αυτό που πραγματικά σε συνεπαίρνει στο συγκεκριμένο, είναι η άριστα προσεγμένη – σε σημεία και ήχο – μελωδία, που μπορεί άνετα να αποτελέσει και το highlight στοιχείο του άλμπουμ. Μετά, περνάμε με το “Secret Satellites” σε ένα βαθύ και απόκοσμο μοτίβο με καθαρά «κοψίματα», το οποίο ενώ γεμίζει, στην συνέχεια διατηρεί έναν λιτό χαρακτήρα. Το remix των Ελλήνων darkwavers Selofan που ακολουθεί, αποτελεί μια ευχάριστη έκπληξη που θα λέγαμε ότι χωρίζει άτυπα το άλμπουμ στα δύο. Ένα ακόμα χαρακτηριστικό κομμάτι, που ακούστηκε στο live stream των Jokasti & Nek κατά τη διάρκεια της καραντίνας, είναι φυσικά το ομώνυμο. Τα φωνητικά κυριαρχούν στην σκηνή και επικρατεί μια γαλήνια ατμόσφαιρα. Λίγο πριν το τέλος στο ελαφρώς χορευτικό τέμπο του “Acheron“, «περιπλέκονται» διάφορα μουσικά στοιχεία τα οποία διατηρούν αναλλοίωτη την προσφορά τους στο κομμάτι. Προτελευταίο το “Regrets“, το οποίο ξεκινάει με μια ήρεμη εισαγωγή και μας ξαφνιάζει με την κλιμάκωσή του. Οι στιβαροί και ογκώδεις χτύποι πλαισιώνονται από μια ταξιδιάρικη μελωδία κι ένα «χαοτικό» ambient, δημιουργώντας ανάμεικτα συναισθήματα. Μια ώριμη και συνδυαστική σύνθεση για no regrets ακρόαση. Κλείνουμε, λοιπόν ένα ιδιόμορφο ταξίδι 10 προορισμών με το “Shirley” και την ιδιαίτερη ζωντάνια του, λέγοντας την δικιά του βραδινή ιστορία μέσα από όμορφα και ζεστά synths.
Πολλές ώρες, μέρες, μήνες, χρόνια συνθέτουν αυτήν τη στιγμή όπου είμαι στην ευχάριστη θέση να μοιραστώ αυτό το άλμπουμ. Μια συλλογή κομματιών που κυμαίνεται από κομμάτια για ώρα αιχμής σε dance floor έως πιο πειραματικούς ήχους με οτιδήποτε άλλο ενδιάμεσο, εστιάζοντας στα φωνητικά.

Μέσα από το “Silver Lining” εξερευνήσαμε ένα συνονθύλευμα κόσμων κι εμπειριών, που κάλυψε όποια τάση ακολουθούμε ως ακροατές της ηλεκτρονικής μουσικής. Καταφέρνει και στέκεται επάξια σε dance floor περιβάλλον, αλλά και σε πιο προσωπική ακρόαση. Συγκεντρώνει πολλαπλές επιρροές που συνθέτονται αρμονικά σε ένα απολαυστικό αποτέλεσμα, στο οποίο βρίσκουν φυσικά θέση και οι όποιες φωνητικές προσθήκες. Σίγουρα ελπίζουμε και για περισσότερα!

Our thoughts about the first solo album “Silver Lining” of Jokasti!
Jokasti is the first half of Jokasti & Nek, the work of who we are already familiar with. Their releases are plenty, but now the time has come for her solo debut with the label Prodigal Son. They have already collaborated in two past compilations and in the EP “Uncertain Past”. The brand new “Silver Lining” draws inspiration from a bunch of experiences, sounds, and nights spent on dance floors. Overall, from the very first contact with it, we understood that it does not monopolize in style, but rather it reconciles several musical elements, giving special attention to the vocals.
From the whispered intro, we immerse ourselves in “Skotadi”, which we could say that resembles a ritual with its rhythmic beats, lyrics, and ambient background. Raising the tempo, the second part gives us a warning that “This is a subliminal message” and we better pay attention to it! By entering the main part of the album, we encounter a beloved acid pattern and discreet some vocal distortions that “pinch” the interest. A track with a dynamic start and clear sound that is ready to be listened to at high volume. But what is this message? In the “Time to time” we found some solid kicks, hi-hats, and high-pitch “dragging” with the title to “tease”, to be repeated hypnotically and to lead us to the first and long-awaited drop. More than anything, it is a serious techno track with sounds that will raise your aggressiveness. The volume of “Terr Atcha” that follows is really enjoyable and gives a great boost to the rest of the album. However, what will really captivate you in this particularly is the precise – in points and sound – melody, which can easily be the highlight of the album. We move on to “Secret Satellites” with a deep and eerie pattern and clear “cuts”, which, while it gets filled up, retains a simple character. The remix of the Greek darkwavers Selofan that follows is a pleasant surprise, which figuratively divides the album in two. Another characteristic track, which was played on the live stream of Jokasti & Nek during the quarantine, is of course the homonymous one. The vocals dominate the stage and a peaceful atmosphere prevails. Shortly before the end, the mood is raised up with the slightly dancing tempo of “Acheron”, in which various musical elements get tangled up while maintaining the piece solid. The penultimate one is the “Regrets”, which starts with a calm intro and surprises us with its escalation. The solid and massive beats are framed by a travel mood melody and a “chaotic” ambiance, leaving us with mixed emotions. A mature and conjunctional composition for no-regrets listening. The album closes with a quirky trip to 10 destinations with “Shirley” and its unique vividness, narrating its own night tale through beautiful and warm synths.
Many hours, days, months, and years compose this moment in which I happily release and share this album. A collection of tracks ranging from rush hour tracks on the dance floor to more experimental sounds with anything in between, with a particular focus on the vocals.

Through the “Silver Lining” we explored a patchwork of worlds and experiences, which covers any trend we tend to follow as electronic music listeners. The album succeeds and stands worthy in a dance floor environment, but also it’s great for personal listening. It brings together multiple influences that are harmoniously composed in an enjoyable result, in which, of course, any vocal additions find its way through. We definitely hope for more!
