black lives matter 👊🏾 His name was Ahmaud Arbery. Make no mistake that his murder was NOT a singular reflection of a few “bad apples,” this is a proven pattern of violence towards POC perpetuated by systemic oppression and enduring racism and biases in the US. Black Americans can’t exercise, they can’t hold their phones, they simply can’t exist in public places or even in the comfort of their own home without being harassed and killed. This is why it’s more important than ever to vote for public officials who will hold those accountable for racial injustices, work towards changing the system of oppression, and protect our minority communities 📨 EDIT: If your immediate response to this content is “all lives matter,” I seriously want you to think about why that is. If all lives matter, why does that phrase upset you? Is that an appropriate response to a hate crime? Imagine being so defensive about language providing compassion to POC that instead of mourning the death of minorities and empathizing with them, you rather undermine the minority experience with dismissive language hidden as inclusivity. You may feel like your life has always mattered to the general public, but it hasn’t been the same for minorities, and that’s why this message matters. 〰️ Please checkout my repost highlight before reposting ✌️ 〰️ #blacklivesmatter #ahmaudarbery #systemicracism #whiteprivilege #checkyourprivilege #racialequality #illo #illustration #digitalillustration #procreate #illustrator #illustratorsoninstagram #ladieswhodraw #womenwhodraw #pdxillustrators #illustratorsoninstagram #womensupportingwomen #womanownedbusiness #portlandartist #womenofillustration #femaleillustrator #femaleartist #womanartist #femaleartists #womenartists #ladieswhodesign

My art looks like this, because my reality looks like 👉🏽 (swipe) I’m very sensitive to the woes of the world. Hunger, homelessness, abuse, assault, i feel it all so deeply i needed a way to create more of what i imagined, more of what would uplift me and other Black women and remind them that although they aren’t represented nearly enough in galleries, in media, in leadership we matter. We are worthy and strong and vibrant. I didn’t want to add to the constant trauma we endure by immortalizing it with my art. Instead i wanted to add color, fun, freedom. The world is bleeding. We have a gaping hole that can’t be filled with anymore bandaids. We need to confront this issue head on. Reimagine our communities, how we show up and how we keep our people safe. No more excuses. No more putting people over property. Enough is enough. #blacklivesmatter #blackartist #illustration #procreate #ipadpro

🗣 ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! 🗣 If you aren’t angry about the deaths of #ahmaudarbery #breonnataylor #georgefloyd and countless other black men and women who have died at the hands of a racist, broken system, one of two things is true: 1. You either aren’t paying attention, or 2. You’re part of the problem. If you’re tired of hearing about racism or seeing us speak out against it, imagine how tired people are of experiencing it every. single. day. White and white-passing people: If you want to help but you’re not sure how, start by educating yourself. Knowledge is power. Then, check your privilege. Recognize that, even if your life has been hard, your skin color isn’t one of the things making it harder. And one more thing: stop saying, “I’m not racist because I don’t see color.” First of all, if you aren’t blind, that’s bullshit. Second, when you say you don’t see color, you’re ignoring racism while completely dismissing black history and culture. Stop doing that! See color, learn about it, celebrate it! To everyone hurting right now, I’m with you. I see you, and I’ll do everything I can to be part of the solution. I can promise you that. Sending so much love and light to you. 💖 Please feel free to share this in your posts and stories if you’re moved to do so. Just be sure to add an artist credit to the caption so others can find the original piece. Thank you! … … … Edit: Okay, let me be abundantly clear since some folks just don’t seem to get it. This is MY artwork, MY post, on MY profile. As such, I reserve the right to promptly delete any comments that spout nonsense, spread misinformation, or diminish IN ANY WAY the hurt and anger that many of us so rightly feel. By all means, have your opinion. But if you’ve come here to be nasty, you can see yourself out. … … … #blacklivesmatter #sayhisname #sayhername #saytheirnames

Together. . . For once I just want to use this tribune to speak up, so if you’re here for the pretty pictures just scroll away. You might say it’s another #blacklivesmatter post but there will never be enough. It may seems ridiculously pointless to do pictures and try to find words to describe inhumanity. Voices from everywhere needs to be heard, this fight is not over, so keep posting, talking, arguing and fighting for it. Our first instinct is to respond with more violence, this will ease the pain for an instant but not deeply heal our souls and change society. « An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind ». Nobody is born racist, I strongly believe the only way to win this is through education. Keep spreading the love and let everyone breathe . #georgefloyd
